About the author: Born in London, England in 1968 to parents from Barbados, Kandace Chimbiri is the author of Black history books for children. Kandace (pronounced CAN-DAS-SEE) is motivated by a desire to help improve both children's literacy as well as their knowledge of history.
About the illustrator:
Joelle Avelino is a Congolese and Angolan illustrator and animator. She has worked with many clients including the BBC, Malala Fund, Elle Magazine and The Guardian, to name just a few.
